China’s Ammonium Sulfate Export Overview (2021–2025)
From 2021 to 2025, China’s ammonium sulfate exports continued to break historical records, firmly maintaining its position as the world’s largest exporter. Export volumes increased from 10.65 million tons in 2021 to 21.36 million tons in 2025, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 19%.
Following the removal of CIQ in 2019, together with a rapid expansion of domestic ammonium sulfate production capacity, China’s export volumes have grown significantly. By 2025, total exports exceeded 20 million tons, reaching a new historical high of 21.36 million tons.
Export Destination Structure
In 2025, China’s ammonium sulfate exports were mainly concentrated in South America, Southeast Asia, and Turkey, which have remained the core destination regions over the past five years.
The top five export destinations in 2025 were Brazil, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Turkey, collectively accounting for 56% of total exports.
-
Brazil Brazil has consistently ranked as China’s largest export destination for ammonium sulfate over the past five years. In 2025, exports to Brazil reached 7.8 million tons, setting a new historical record and firmly securing its top position.
-
Vietnam Vietnam surpassed Indonesia to rank second in 2021 and 2022. Although exports declined in 2023 compared with 2022, shipments recovered to 1.06 million tons in 2025, ranking fifth among China’s export destinations.
-
Myanmar Myanmar experienced rapid growth from 2020 to 2023. Exports rose from fourth place in 2020 to second place in 2023, reaching 1.45 million tons. In 2025, export volumes remained relatively stable, ranking third, behind Turkey.
-
Indonesia Exports to Indonesia reached 1.03 million tons in 2020, but declined sharply in 2022 to approximately 580,000 tons. Volumes rebounded significantly in 2023 and 2024 and remained relatively stable through 2025.
-
Turkey Turkey’s import volumes have fluctuated considerably over the past five years. Exports were only 150,000 tons in 2020, surged to 1.05 million tons in 2022, declined sharply in 2023, and increased again in 2025.
Outlook for 2026
South American and Southeast Asian countries remain highly dependent on imported ammonium sulfate. With the continued expansion of China’s production capacity and the fact that global capacity growth remains largely concentrated in China, China’s ammonium sulfate exports are expected to continue growing in 2026.
-
Brazil is expected to remain China’s largest export destination in 2026. Assuming no major changes in the global supply structure, its export share is likely to increase slightly year on year.
-
Myanmar has shown strong growth in recent years; however, due to border closures and weakening demand, exports are expected to decline, with a corresponding decrease in export share next year.
-
Vietnam and Indonesia are expected to see continued demand growth, supported by agricultural production needs.
-
Turkey is also expected to further increase its ammonium sulfate imports in 2026.
